Pro-Life vs. Pro-Choice

August 05, 2007

One of the most controversial issues in our society today is, abortion. Our world is one of Pro-Life vs. Pro-Choice, a division between life and death. Many argue that a woman shouldn’t have the right to have an abortion and kill the unborn fetus. They believe the unborn child has the right to live, but until they are put into that woman’s shoes they can’t possibly understand. While some women use abortions as an easy fix to unprotected sex, many have them due to incidents such as rape or medical reasons. In my opinion a woman should have the right to an abortion. As individuals it is our inherent right, to do with our bodies what we please and no single person has the right to tell us otherwise. Each year 46 million abortions take place throughout the United States, 126,000 a day. The babies being aborted are 24 weeks old or less, in my opinion they aren’t even humans yet, but still an embryo that is beginning to develop.  From an environmental stand point the women of the U.S are exercising their right to population control. As it is, in the United States alone, millions of children live in poverty. While many view these abortions as murder and the devils work, I view these abortions as a way for us the people, to stop so many innocent children from being born into poverty. No child deserves to be brought into the world to live a life of hunger and constant suffering. Many individuals talk about alternatives to abortion such as adoption. However there are millions of children in adoption centers who never get out and at the age of 18 they are kicked out to live on their own. We have too many homeless children running around our streets and I don’t believe we need anymore. Those advocates of Pro-Life only look at one side of the situation and that’s that, innocent lives are being destroyed. They don’t think about the fact that a large percent of these abortions happen due to rape and medical reasons. In all honesty there are very few women that would want to keep the child of a rapist. After being victimized and raped the women feel degraded and useless and don’t even fathom the though of keeping the baby. It’s not fair to force a rape baby onto a woman who in the future may possibly abandon or deny the child love. Rather than viewing abortions as negative and murder, individuals should look at it positively. It is a way for us to control our rapidly growing population and for us as a nation to stop children, from being born into poverty and living downtrodden lives that no one deserves. As a young woman myself, I find it hard to believe that people would try and deny women the right to have abortions. Not only does it act as a population control, but it helps with the number of children being subjected to poverty and orphanages. I think that before people judge women and call them murders and devils they should realize that there are many different situation situations and reasons for abortion. Abortion is not for the sole purpose to kill, but rather an entitlement of reproductive rights. Women need to be able to feel free to talk to their doctors about abortion, rather than running scared and getting an illegal abortion where they might possibly endanger themselves. Whether or not a person agrees on abortions, it can be said that individuals have the right to be happy and feel safe at all times.
